|The real work for the protection of the nature, fauna and flora within the European Community started in 1979 through the adoption of the Bird Directive (79/409). This was followed by the adoption in 1992 of a comprehensive legal act, namley the Habitat Directive (92/43). One major objective of these instruments has been to designate specially protected areas within the Community.|
This study focuses on the question of designation, protection and alteration of protected areas under directives 79/409 & 92/43. This wise limitation of the subject gives him the opportunity to make a profound analysis of a number of key issues relating to specially protected areas under the named directives. The impressive analysis is based on a thorough and careful study of the relevant case-law, practice of the Member States and the doctrine of European environmental law.
