International Seminar "The Breakdown of Public & Private Law Dichotomy in Commercial and Financial Law" organised by the Law Faculty, University of Lund, in co-operation with the International Financial Law Unit and its London Forum for International Economic Law and Development Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London

The financial law field seems to be one of the most expanding domains of law at present. There are several reasons for this. There has been a steady evolution in respect of the financial markets and the different institutions acting in them and also of new financial instruments and arrangements. This evolution has taken place both in respect of commercial parties and in relation to consumers. The latter aspect has called for more consumer protective measures. The amount of capital circulating globally has increased dramatically. The development also has an international as well as a regional aspect. Many new financial arrangements have started in the United States and then been taken up in Asia and in Europe, in the latter case often with Great Britain as a financial engine. National banking rules of traditional nature have been replaced gradually since they are no longer being considered to be adequate to meet modern needs for the financial markets.
