Nordic Yearbook of Law and Informatics, collects eight contributions presented at the 49th Nordic Conference on IT and Law, held in Stockholm in November 2024. The volume is organized around two themes.

The first part, “Regulating Knowledge Machines,” examines the regulatory dimensions of AI governance. Donal Casey investigates the practical and conceptual limits of machine-readable regulation in financial markets. Stefan Larsson and Jockum Hildén analyse the pacing problem as it bears on the EU’s systemic risk framework for general-purpose AI. Liane Colonna applies the EU AI Act’s risk-based classification scheme to personalised learning systems, while Peter Wahlgren offers a broader critical assessment of technocratic tendencies in contemporary governance.

The second part, “Rethinking Legal Method,” turns to the effects of AI on legal reasoning, legal education, and the material infrastructure of law. Aaron M. Cooper examines how geoengineering technologies disrupt established legal categories and normative foundations. Helena Haapio and Anne Ketola address the role of plain language and legal design in transforming legal reasoning under conditions of AI integration. Tanel Kerikmäe and Ebru Metin survey the structural barriers that impede legal tech education in law schools. Johan Fredrikzon, drawing on Cornelia Vismann’s media history of legal files, argues that generative AI dissolves both the rules and the archival traces that have historically constituted legal procedure.
